The Pittsburgh Steelers will face the New England Patriots in Week 7 without the starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Ben Roethlisberger received surgery to tear the left knee meniscus. Coach Mike Tomlin announced Monday via a team statement. Tomlin added no timetable had been set for the veteran quarterback’s return, but Steelers believe that the injury is not long-term.

Unlike the Patriots, the Steelers did not have a good bench at the quarterback position. There is a huge gap between Roethlisberger and the bench Landry Jones jerseys. Jones managed a 58.2 completion rate and 77.3 passer rating on 55 attempts when he replaced Roethlisberger appearance in the last season.

If the Steelers want to have any hope of keeping up with the Patriots, they don’t really have a choice. Several times over the past three years, Jones has seemingly found his roster spot in jeopardy only to survive and — in very limited instances — thrive.

Roethlisberger is not only an MVP candidate but also the league’s most important offensive player. Steelers can remain advantage in his absence in the short term. But if he wants to be absent for a long time, the AFC North door will swing wide open for the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals jerseys.

Veteran RB DeAngelo Williams: I only care about Super Bowl

Whether you’re a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers or not, you’ll love their running back DeAngelo Williams.

DeAngelo Williams

Williams, the NFL’s oldest running back, gobbled up 94 yards on 32 carries as the Steelers knocked off the division rival Cincinnati Bengals. The 33-year-old veteran has 303 yards from scrimmage (237 rushing; 66 receiving) and three scores, and last season he completed 204 yards with the team lacking main running back.

This season, Williams got a chance to start as the Steelers starting running back Le’Veon Bell will miss the first three games due to suspension. After led the team beat the Cincinnati Tigers on Sunday, Williams unwilling to hear views about his ability far away from the backup running back.

“No! I am an insurance policy,” Williams said. “I’m driving the car till L-Bell gets back. I’m trying to keep us in good position till he gets back. That’s good with me. When I came here, I came here to win a Super Bowl. That’s the only thing I care about.”

Williams may lead the league running table next week, and he will return the task to Bell after the fourth week games.
